The Salton Sea’s Collapsed Pier at Sunset

DSC_4747 Salton Sea - healed from tiff

The Salton Sea continues to dry up yet remains one of the most important wetlands for the several million migratory birds who pass through or inhabit this area year after year.

The vertical posts are what remain of the pilings that used to support a dock. The water so still, reflections of both land and manmade structures blend together above and on the water surface.

This photo was taken in 2008. The water has receded so much that nothing similar to this eery, yet beautiful scene remains.
